In May 2000, Lattice Group committed an initial £235m investment over two years for the first stage of 186k's national fibre network and data centre infrastructure, with an additional £97m announced in July 2000. A further £118m was announced in February 2001 to bring the total value of Lattice Group's investment to £450m.
In late 2002 with the merger of National Grid and Transco, 186k was released to Hutchison 3G. Once National Grid Transco stepped out of the net sector 186k became available for sale
186k was acquired in October 2004 by Dominic Marrocco, an Internet entrepreneur. Dominic has stated ambitions to develop 186k to be the IP partner of choice. Since Dominic acquired 186k in 2004 he has made many acquisitions to build the customer base and integrate this base into one central platform for delivering resilient IP based services. |
